Upper Extremity Mechanics Laboratory

The mission of the Upper Extremity Mechanics Laboratory is to enhance our understanding of the various neuromechanical factors that interact to shape reaching in patients post-stroke and to development and evaluate novel rehabilitation therapies and technology to improve post-stroke arm function.

The Upper Extremity Mechanics Laboratory studies reaching movements in healthy and stroke survivors, with a focus on the effects of external loads on reaching kinematics and kinetics. Most of the studies are conducted using a new device for stroke assessment and rehabilitation - the Multi-Axis Cartesian-based Arm Rehabilitation Machine (MACARM). Our studies include patients with moderate to severe chronic stroke-related impairment.
